Transmission Parts Commonality?

Transmission Parts Commonality?
So, my 87 T2's transmission is out. Apparently it's the reverse synchronizer, so at least that's been determined. But, parts are hard to find, and the shop that's working on it says they cannot guarantee that they can get a hold of replacements, even from Mazda. Right now they're suggesting I find a donor transmission, crapped or not, that has a functional synchronizer to swap in. Unfortunately, that's problematic because there's no transmission classifieds on RX7Club, my local craigslist (local being within a 500 mile radius), or reasonably close junkyards (The closest that has a transmission is in an altogether different state).
I've read somewhere that because of Mazda's ties to Ford, some of the Mazda R transmissions ended up in random other late 80s Fords (or was it the other way around?). Considering I only need the guts, does anyone know the specifics on the interchangeability of the transmission units, i.e. which models, what years, what trims/options, what powertrains? So far, I've been solely looking at the Ford Ranger at the moment, given how common they are. I know that the 4x4 model with standard transmissions were differentiated by the Toyo Kogyo and Mitsubishi models. Is the Kogyo unit the same (internally) as the Type-R? Also, does the 4x2 model have a Kogyo unit and is similar to the Type-R?
I know these are really nit-picky questions, but I'm open to any other suggestions on how to get a hold of the synchronizers on a budget.

The "R" 'box is based on the same transmission used in all of the rotary powered cars up until the 1st gen rx7 (the "smooth" or "m" box). Some 929's in the later 80's/early 90's used it as well as the 4X4 MPV's. The same internal guts were used in the 93-95 rx7's here in the states. I do not know of any Ford products that use this transmission, the pickups I've seen had the smooth box.

I called Atkins and manualtransmissionpart.com, but neither have anything for the R box. I'll see if I can get into contact with the guys on ebay.
Though, to clarify, I called up the transmission shop again, and I completely messed up relaying the info. It's actually the slider and the gear for the reverse, not just the ring, that's screwed up, so it's a bit harder to track down than that. If by some miracle, I find the part, then I'll post here, but I'm not expecting much. I'm still checking into the B-series pick up but might end up just buying a different transmission altogether

off the top there is an early 86-87.5? synchro and a late 87.5?-03? synchro (and slider)
the early stuff was only used for a short period so its hard to find, the late one was used until at least the Rx8.
the R box was used in a number of Fords, although before about 1994. in 1994 they switched to the P type transmission, which is still Mazda made, its just different. i know the 80's aerostars had R boxes, and probably bronco's and rangers, anything bigger would probably have something made of stone...
in Mazda the part number for the synchro will be the same no matter what application it is (rx7 and the truck will have the same part number). ford will have a different number, but likely won't have the part because they suck.
good luck!

Just got off the phone with the dealership and now I'm even more confused.
Apparently I have a later model 87 T2, but they said that the hub for the later model is discontinued. On the other hand, the earlier model ones are still in stock? Seems contradictory... Not sure what is going on.
Is it at all possible to use the other hub or do I have to replace a whole bunch of other stuff to do so?
Also, as far as I can tell, there aren't any Bronco or Ranger TK5 boxes available locally. They're all sold out. A car dismantler told me that decent transmissions tend to disappear the next day, and move as fast as RX7s in a junkyard... Otherwise, I have to get them shipped from California, and the closest place quoted me for $150 in shipping alone. If I go that route, I may as well just ship in an actual T2 box.

the entire hub is NLA, but you can just buy the sliding sleeve, R501-17-622, which Mazda has plenty of, $64.51 list price

Okay, I'm really confused now... Pardon my stupidity for when it comes to anything transmission related, but is this sliding sleeve the same thing as a slider? Or a hub clutch? I'll called and clarified that what I really need is the slider and not the hub, so this part is in fact the one I need, right?

17-620 is the entire hub assembly, it comes with the hub, slider, all the keys and springs and stuff. this thing is NLA
17-322/17-242A is the hub slider, you would only get the slider. since this is the part that has to engage the gear, it is the main wear part. this is the thing that is available.
the springs and keys are available too, i didn't check.
make sense?
