transmission mystery???
I put another tranny in my 87 gxl yesterday off a car that had 130k on it the guy who had the car before we got it told us it drove just fine and the tranny was good. So when i finished putting the tranny in i noticed i had got 80w-140 oil instead of 80w-90 but it was getting late so i just put that oil in instead.. Now when i take off in first theres alittle hum but as i increase speed so does the sound its the loudest in third and stoppes all together in fourth, fifth, and reverse. It doesnt sound like a bearing because it has that dry gear sound like they are not oiled? Also when i drove it this morning after it sat all night it was quiet for about 5 minutes then it got loud again.Kinda rumbly chunky kinda sound. And the syncro's are good because it shift's into gear no problem.
The pilot and throwout bearing are all brand new so thats out of the question any idea's guys?

Does anyone know if putting 80w-140 gear oil in the tranny can cause the noise? Also how about the front and rear oil seals you think that could be it?

Does the 80W140 *explicitly* state it's okay for use in "modern synchromesh transmissions???
Is it GL-5 or GL-4 rated???
Does it STINK like sulfer or rotten eggs???
