Transmission issue?

I have a quick question about something that has been going on for the past month. While driving the car I have days where it shifts and times when it wont go into gear at all. This has happened to me twice today. I went on break and drove 2 mins to the gas station, car shifting like butter. On the way back I pull of in 1st and attempt to switch to 2nd and the it wont go in at all. I try third and its the same thing. So I just roll for about 10 secs with my foot on the clutch and then it easily went into gear. 2 weeks ago I checked the transmission fluid and it seemed fine. Anyone have any idea what this could possibly be? I thought a transmission would just go out gear by gear or all at once. Not work perfectly, then act, then magically work perfect again. I already have a spare transmission ready to throw in, I just want some opinions of what i could possibly be.

If it matters the car was an auto converted to manual with 2 tranny mounts welded together

well i know back in mine the tranny wouldnt shift to second if you pulled the shifter too far left as you were coming done, this was related to teh bushing being shot tho. not really sure if this helps any. also could be the clutch?

the shift rod check ***** get stuck on the n/a transmissions when they get old and shafts start to get burred up. you can try removing and cleaning them and toss some grease on them, it may help some.

Ok, well yesterday after work, I gave a coworker a ride home and the car drove fine. I was not hard on it at all. Once I got there I waited about 30 mins before leaving. I got back in the car and guess what, won't go into gear. It seemed like the transmission was rotating with the clutch in gear. I tried first nothing, 2nd nothing, reverse (loud horrible grinding). So I turned the car off took the shifter off and cleaned it up. The was a piece on top that I have no idea what its for. I will take a pic of it later. Anyway, I reinstalled the shifter and still nothing. So I said screw it and tried 3rd, and it went in. After third I went to 2nd and then 1st. Both going in very smoothly. So I went to reverse and backed out and left. About 2 mins later I pull in the parking lot to put the last bolt of the three in the shifter. After trying to leave again the same thing happened. So I tried third again and it went in smoothly and freed the other two gears. So, on the way to work this morning. I had to do that same maneuver twice and each time it works and lets me go into 1st and 2nd. As any one heard of this or know what could be causing that issue. My gut is telling me pilot bearing, or an internal transmission problem, but I'm am not that knowledgeable yet on this part of the car as of yet.

if your foot is on the clutch and it won't go into gear and is grinding going into reverse then you have a clutch issue. broken fork pivot, bypassing master, air in the lines, leaking slave, worn out clutch disc, pilot bearing coming apart, etc.
