transmission clarity

I have an 88 convertible 5sp NA. I need to replace the transmission, however, I need to know if I have to replace it with another convertible transmission or are they all the same except i'd need top change out the mounts?

don't quote me on this but I'm fairly sure the transmissions themselfs are the same thing. any S4 N/A tranny should work for you.

I think I agree, but will any s5 manual trans fit as well other than changing the mounts?

No. You need a NA transmission. If you want to upgrade to a turbo II, you'll need a Turbo II:
-Starter
-Transmission mount
-custom driveshaft
-clutch disk/pressure plate.

Best bet is to pull one out of the junkyard if you can ever find one or buy it off of someone on this forum.

Yeah, I know Turbo will not fit - I'm not looking at a Turbo at all. I just need to know will a NA s4 or S5 fit my convertible ok?

Thanks guys for the responses.

again don't quote me on this, but i'm fairly sure the S5 use different mounting positions, so I'd stick with S4.

I know the S4 and S5 T2 cross members are different, so i'd imagine they are for the N/As as well.

The vert trannys are a M50N series tranny and slightly stronger than the standard non turbo M85 tranny.

But completely interchangeable

I have heard this before but forgot it entirely.

OP: You can use any n/a transmission and you need to use the crossmember that matches the trans.
