Wink trans rebuild

my trans syncronizers have been bad for awhile,it grinds at high rpm shifting 1-3rd. since i think it would be dumb to not rebuild the trans while its off and apart, would i be better off rebuilding or buying a whole newer trans? 13b n/a,130k miles

I'd rebuild it if I were you! You need a special mazda tool kit if you're going to do it yourself. There were a few guys on the forum who bought the kit and who were going to sell it here after they were done... look around / do a search for 'em, chances are somebody has a toolkit they'd sell / loan you.

what special tools are needed to rebuild? I have a S5 TII tranny sitting in my garage waiting to be rebuilt. Using a S4 tranny for now that I picked up for $120

I rebuilt my trans a couple years ago. It does require a large wrench and some gear pullers but nothing that you HAVE to go to mazda for. Rebuilding is the way to go. If you get another used trans it is not likely to be a lot better than the one you have.

K guys I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. My synchros are bad, and the high rpm shift between 2 and 3 is bad. I already spent 90 (cdn) on redline MT90 hoping that it would cure the prob. But to no avail. I have now the choice of getting my friends tranny from his 86 for free or rebuilding. Since I can get this free tranny do you think that I might as well try that one first before I go for a rebuild, or do you think I should just get the rebuild done and never have to worry about tranny probs again??

oh yeah, do any of you know if the MT90 would be reusable if I drain it from my tranny right now and put it in my friends tranny or for the rebuilt one (if I do it). Cause that stuff ain't cheap and I'd hate to see it go to waste. (I only put it in on wednesday)

I'd get the free one and rebuild it. What better way to do a rebuild when you are not in a hurry.

If it were me I'd reuse the redline as long as it is still clean.
