tranny problem?

hi. when i am in second gear at 7k rpm i am at 85km/h. this doesnt seem right as i have seen other turboII's go up to 100km/hr or aound 60mph. i had a used tranny put in about 2yrs ago and i noticed it then. but before i put in the used tranny in i dont remember how fast i was going when i was at redline on 2nd gear. so whats the prob? i also have gsl-se stationary gears or crankshaft(forgot which one) in my 3mm street ported engine. thanks.

If the gearing is the same then you should be going the same speed, perhaps your speedo gear is off or something.

If the tranny and diff don't match what type/year/model of RX-7 your speedo did, then you will have incorrect readings on the speedo. The speedo gear in the tailshaft of the tranny controls this, and it is geared according to your diff and speedo.

ok thanks. so i think they swapped my tranny and maybe diff with a different rx7, probably not a turboII tranny. so what can i do now? i have a 87 tII. if i can find another 87tII tranny, would it be ok? i need another tranny anyways. thanks.

Stock gear ratios for TII (mine at least, and I think yours also) will send you up to 105kph at 2nd (thats why i can get a 6,5" 0-100kph with *only* 200 horsies ), which is almost 70mph. If you dont have any additional gauges, then you'll have to use another car to pace you...

Go to any speedo shop. They will test the accuracy of your speedometer. If your really off, they can make an adaptor that fits between your tranny and speedo cable to correct.

Been there, done that. Problem solved.
