TX Tranny and motor wont mate up???

I have had my 7 on jack stands for almost a year now, so any help would be greatly appreciated...

I have been working on putting a tranny in and I broke the top driver side bolt and ear off because the tranny was not coming completely together...
I have all of the other bolts in now and only the bottom of the tranny and motor will mate up and not leave a gap.. The top is as tight as I feel comfortable tightening it without fear of breaking them off too but there is a 1/16" - 1/8" gap between the tranny and motor...

Is this gap supposed to be there? If not, is there a reason it wont go together? Any suggestions?

8 Views so far and not one person can go look at their transmission and motor to see if there is a 1/16" gap or even just answer the question?
I am shocked at the lack of response...

there should be no gap where the bell and rear iron mate. did you seat the convertor in all the way.sometimes it feels like it is you need to keep spinning it a wiggling it up and down. can you spin convertor how it is now. if not there is your problem.

The convertor was bolted directly to the flywheel and is flush... It spins but not as freely as when the tranny was still loose...

Would it be easier or damaging if I hooked up the starter and just bumped it to get it together?

if you bolted the convertor before the trans was flush you could of pulled it off the pump shaft. you didnt bolt the convertor to the flywheel before installing transmission did you. i hope not
