tranny or clutch problem, help

here's the prob. when i am slowing down i like to use the engine to slow me down. when i'm going about 15 or so i will then shift into 1st gear. when i do that their is a sound from the tranny that is just owful. it's a scraching sound or a grinding sound. then when i let the clutch out it stops.

here is the other problem when i redline the car and shift fast it does not want to go into gear.(it feel like the clutch is not working or something.) this only happens at 6800 and above. also it does it in seconed and third gear. i'm not sure if it does it in 4th and 5th. never redlined it in 3rd or 4th yet. wierd their is something worng.

what is wrong? are both these syptoms tyed into each other?

When going into 1st at 15 there way is more clutch & countershaft speed needed to syncronize the gears.
You have two choices:
Slow down to 5 or less before downshifting.
Or learn to double pedal downshift to get the gears up to speed.

At 100000 or so miles any tranny will have some tired syncros.
This is most noticable 1st to 2nd.
The first thing is to change to synthetic gear oil.
The next thing is to short shift 1st around 6K.
You're still in the power band & the syncros can make it.
