Question Trailing coil only works when low coolant sensor unplugged?

Well its a really weird thing...i havnt had any luck in getting the trailing coil to fire untill today, i had the car cranked and the tach was dead as usual. Well i unplugged the low coolant sensor on top of the radiator and the buzzer came on inside the car where my wife was sitting the the tach started working...well seems that everytime the sensor is unplugged or there isnt water in the radiator the trailing coil works??? how could this be? also sometimes the the gas gauge dosent work and when it dosent the car studders real bad to rev up, but when the gas gauge works the car revs up real smooth...the gauge works sometime and other times not....where do i need to look to track down these electrical gremlins...

thanx

The only thing in common with the tach and the low water sensor is that they both are in common with the instrument cluster. Sounds like some miswire somewhere. See page 50-40 of the wiring diagrams for series four.

The buzzer is in the instrument cluster with the tach wiring. Maybe someone tried to destroy the buzzer at one time and screwed the pooch. See page 50-40

All go back to the instrument cluster. Maybe the gnd circuit for the cluster is missing. It's gnd 9. See the wiring diagrams around page 50-40 in the book. They all share the same gnd point is what I just said.

Gnd 9 is part of JC-02 located somewhere behind the instrument cluster area .....maybe. See book.

Then again, they all share in some fashion the power wire B/Y of the instrument cluster.

Just cleaning any ole ground won't cut the mustard. The ground in question would be the one dedicated to the INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. It is behind the cluster. Cleaning grounds on the engine and batt won't cut it.

The plug you are looking for houses six wires and all of them are grounds. Since connector JC-02 is the end of the line so to speak, it makes sense this connector would be located against the metal frame of the car. Pic below is of "JC-01" which should be similar in nature to what you are looking for.
