Traded my Vert for a T2!
Well, after 3 years with my beloved 88 convertable I traded her for a 87 T2. Now it is time for my project to begin.
It is a all stock 1987 TII with 111k on body and motor. Metallic blue/gray exterior, grey interior. PW, AC, PM, Sunroof (works good), no spoiler, no power steering. It has new tires, brakes, clutch. It has alot of little problems to be worked out, but that is to be expected. The exterior is beat up. Ill be doing alot of bondo and my engineless mint condition s5 couple is now my donner car. So full (cosmetic) s5 conversion and respray is on the way. The interior is very nice so it will need only the superior s5 interior pieces such as the stereo surround. Transmission is great and the engine feels strong. And now is where I need some of yalls' thoughs. First thing on this project is a compression check and full/extensive tuneup/servicing. Here is what I have on my list so far.
Change oil
Change fuel filter
Flush coolant
Change tranny fluid
Change diff fluid
Change spark plugs
Change belts
Change all coolant hoses
I will be putting a aftermarket filter on so no change needed there.
Tell me what I have left off the list!
After that it is time to install all my gauges. Boost, A/F, oil pressure, coolent temp, and I will have one more gauge hole to fill... what gauge should I get?
If there is any other words of wisdom about getting this thing running top notch, lets hear um.
Don't got pictures yet. I'll post them when I do.

I know A/F and Exhaust gas temp serve the same purpose yet it seems like everyone still says it is a good Idea to have both. Why is that? is one more accurate that the other on telling you how rich/lean you are running? Anyone wanna let me in on the secret?
a/f is usualy a faster reading... however exaust gas temp is wider range...
im preety sure thats why people get both... a/f is instant but not too accurate, exaust gas is accurate as far as that goes, but can take a while to heat up, so wont show instant changes

egt is pointless, I blew my engine and it still was in the "safe" range, expecially if you car is stock and you have no means of adjusting fuel,
mods in order
Turbo timer (my HKS type 0 has an auto setting that know how long it needs to cool the turbo down)
walbro fuel pump
intake filter
ported wastgate or 89-91 turbo
down pipe
cat-back
and it can get crazy from there

Ok, I checked the compression ant it came out 98 rear and 100 front. All even bounces.
Tune up is under way.
After all the gauges are in I will be putting on a catback, downpipe, intake, fcd.
I have heard no fuel mods are needed to run this. Yes, No? Is a ported wastegate a must with this set up?
What psi would this put me at?
Lets hear some opinions please.
