Unhappy tps maybe? won't hold idle :(

well this just started happening the other day but normally when i turn on my 7 it powers up great sounds great revs to about 3000 rpms then comes back down gradually to about 1000....but yesterday after it revved up to 3000 it came down and went all the way to 0 rpms and of course causing the car to stall. i don't know a whole lot about cars but i have a bunch of people who could help me fix this problem if you have any ideas? i can "fight it" by playing with the gas pedal and keep the car alive but that is a nuissance. after about 3 minutes the car will hold the rpm's up on its own (even though it is only about 500 rpms) does this have anything to do with the tps? how would i go about adjusting it? were would i get my hands on a meter? anything helps! pleaseeee. this car is my baby

TPS shouldn't be an issue here but its always good to check it anyways.

After it went up to 3000 rpm, did it instantly drop to zero or did it gradually fal untill it stalled?
