Totally new to RX-7s, 87 30K miles should I buy???
Ok, my uncle has owned his 1987 RX-7 since it was new. He barely drove it but took it out occasionally and kept it in good shape, right now its got 30K miles on it. The car's dark grey metallic with a maroon cloth interior. 5-spd and power sunroof but everything else is manual.
He sold it to my brother a few months ago for $4000. My brother switches cars about every 6 months. He works at a Buick dealer and gets fantastic deals on trade ins they don't want. So he usually has some perfect looking, loaded, but not-so-cool Buick. In addition he's typically got some sports car he found, Mustang, GTI and most recently the RX-7. He also has a Harley and apparently just bought a bigger one and says the RX-7 needs to go (he won't drive it in bad weather).
I am currently driving my aging Volvo 240 sedan (hey at least its a 5-spd) and several months ago I impulsively bought one of my favorite Volvos on ebay - an 89 780 Turbo coupe (you're gonna have to google search for that one probably!). I picked the 780 up in FL with 43K on it. Its in good shape but I've gutted it and am totally repairing and redying the interior thats in very good shape but bleached by years of FL sun. Body wise its very good but will need painted at some point. Mechanically, I was planning to have all new bushings, new shocks, etc done. The engine will need the usual tune up but it ran well all the way from FL to PA.
So right now I've got a 240 that I'm basically pushing along until another car comes into the picture. The 780 is going to be expensive to get to the point I want (it cost me $4500 I bet I'll spend $10K on it easy) but then it will be in great shape. However if I smash it up...oh the heartache. It'd be too bad if the RX-7 got dinged up (I would prob be more dinged up in it) but sorry I'm more attached to my Volvos.
So, given my rambling story - Should I buy this car? I've got to talk to my brother about what it might need and I know NOTHING about RX-7s. But, it looks like a car that's maybe a few years old. And its decently fast, about as quick as I expected.
If I got it the 780 would have to go, probably at a loss but I'd get it into the hands of someone else who would fix it up and keep that rare car on the road. The 240 would prob get all the attention it needs and become my bad weather car.
If you guys can give me some opinions that'd be great. I know you probably won't have too much to add on the Volvos but I'm going to post this same message to my favorite Volvo forums and see what the other side thinks.

It's just an N/A. He's talked of adding a turbo but I convinced him not to mod it at this point. Correction - its an 86.
