torrington thrust bearings slipping out of place?

Is there any way to know if your torrington thrust bearings inside the front cover/front of engine have fallen out of place from loosening your E-shaft bolt? I didn't pull the bolt or the pulley, just loosened it slightly.

i dont beleive theres no way you can tell. i forgot to press the clutch and had to take the front cover off. major pain in the ***, but better safe than sorry. turned out that it was still in place. i doubt it fell out of place, i think it would take some definate movement of the eshaft for it to drop out of place.

There is a measurement that you can make. It's in the FSM. It requires the bolt to be out though.

yes, but the method of checking that measurement could cause the bearing to drop out of place as well

This step?

Eccentric Shaft Lock Bolt and Bypass Valve

1.Install the eccentric shaft pulley boss

2. Temporarily Install the lock bolt, and tighten It by hand.

3. Remove the lock bolt, and measure the pulley boss protrusion. If It Is over the limit, the needle bearing may be wedged by the spacer. Remove and reassemble the needle bearing correctly.

Protusion: 2.44 mm (0.0961) max

If you started the car and noticed that its idling lwoer and has less power at idle (stalls easily when taking off) Then its probably crunched.
Also- grab the pulley and try to move it in and out. If there is no end play at all, it's probably crunched. You have to be very senstitive to the end play though- cause on that shaft, it's hard to feel.

would it be a very immidiate noticable drop in idle. Mine seems to idle all over the place, but there was no noticable drop in power off idle. the car has been driven more than 100 miles since with no problems. I am assuming it is okay....?
