Question torque specs

ok so im replacing my lower ball joint. I have the strut disconnected, along with the tie rod, caliper, sway bar link, and the whole knuckles off the car. So ive looked everywhere in the fsm for the torque specs and im sort of confused about some of them.

this is what i have.

sway bar link to control arm 27-37 ft lbs

ball joint to arm 69-86 ft lbs

strut to knucle 69-86 ft lbs

tie rod end to the arm 22-33 ft lbs

and then in the technical section it gives you a torque spec of 58-72 lbs for the front caliper but then in the brake section it gives you a spec something like 30 ft lbs

also i cant find the spec for the pinch bolt that holds the ball joint in.

i dont know if im just dumb or not seeing. I have mitchell on demand at school but im on vacation so i cant use that

hopefully someone can help me out

thanks

You have the single piston calipers right?

im 99% sure the 58-72 foot lbs is for the bracket to hub, and the 30 ft pound is for the caliper guide pins.

About that pinch bolt you are talking about, are you talking about the bolts thats on the lower arm that holds the ball joint to it? or the ball joint to the spindle?

im pretty sure there 4 and there not floating there fixed calipers so the mount and the calipers are all one thing thats where i got confused

and i dont see a spec for the pinch bolt that holds the lower ball joint in

You're not blind, I don't see it either. I checked your other numbers, they seem fine.

You have an '87 sport and you mentioned you have the non-floating front calipers, which are the 4-piston calipers. The lower torque number is for the single piston lock pin bolt (caliper to slider assy.) - so it's not for you. The higher number (58-72 ft-lb) is the number you want (from 4-piston caliper to knuckle).

For the pinch bolt use the "Standard Bolt and nut tightening torque". Don't remember the dia...(I think it's either 8 or 10) but for 8mm thread diameter 7.2-10.8 ft-lb, 10mm dia. 14-21 fl-lb. I'm talking thread diameter, not wrench size, people confuse the two.

Impact and be done with it. lol.

After a while you just learn to eyeball stuff and gauge how stout it is. Of course this requires knowing your impact really well too.
