Top speed of 105mph??

I was driving around in my 88 se n/a. And i haven't pushed it for awhile so i decided to take it out on the highway to see its top speed. A few months ago i hit 110 pretty easily. So i jump on the highway and hit it. Before i reach 100 i run out of road so i take on off ramp and try it again. The dial slowly creeps up to 105 and sits there for about 5 seconds not accelerating. I know it doesn't have a governor, and it was a little uphill, but i still think it should have done a little better than that. My coolant seals are out, but i tried a block weld and it is working right now. So i'm guessing that is the reason for my lack of power? What speeds have u guys hit in ur n/a?

I have a 1990 FC3C, 150,000 original miles. Today with top down, and 225 pound friend in passenger seat, I hit 115 in 4th gear, hitting 6850 rpms. Can't wait to get to Infineon raceway on Wednesday night for street drags to see what 5th gear can do. Nice thing about Infineon is that the cops sanction the events so its safe for all. Peace!

you n/a guys make me sad. on my old setup to impress people i would go through 2nd and 3rd on the on ramp to our outer belt freeway.... the goal was to from a stop at the light make the left onto the ramp (its pretty flat) and get to 90... then slow down to 70 before i got to the bottom of the ramp.

come to the dark side... turbo is your friend. p.s. my 5th gear pulls like your 3rd.

Hey sleeper, I dont disagree with you re: turbo, but its my first rotary, 1 1/2 months into the car, fixed all the squirrels, so far, and enjoying the crap out of n/a. Give me time, I'll get to the bigs soon enough. Peace.

I can't believe your TII can get to 160, or are the s5 guages to 160 and the s4 to 140? In my 89 na I hit about 120 and it doesn't seem to want to go further but I think i was in 5th or I shifted into 5th.

5th is power limited to around 105-110 in the NAs. 4th should pull to redline/fuel cut, though I'm hesitant to try due to water pump cavitation at those RPMs.

I did 130 in my 88 GXL with 155k miles, no mods, and half of my exhaust missing (the Y pipe was rusted and the passenger side muffler was pretty much there for decoration). I was afraid to push it anymore, as I also had older tires, so I backed off. I doubt I couldn't gotten much more out of it, though.

- O ya, i tried it again while racing a 1990 325i bimmer and i got to about 120 before i almost got smashed by a SUV. I was watching the bimmer's tail lights the entire race

geez, if your 16 you shouldnt race people going 120 on the streets !!! and expecially if theres other cars around!!! ....

well what am i saying i did that kind of **** too, LOL.... but i tired to only race people when theres no other cars arround. to get in the way. just to make it "safer" at least not putting others at risk only my self and the other idiot who wants to race me.

i'd say thats your major problem right there .. do a 5-spd conversion and you'll waken your car up

I got my 89 TII up to 130... but that's when it was really broken... and my fuel was all messed up. my 4th gear redlined at like 120-125.

-Myk

PS when I redlined 4th I shot the biggest flames I've ever seen must have been at least 5 or 6 feet long.

My car had 215,000 original miles and got up to 135 without a problem. Now I might be able to get higher in 5th, but I havent tested it in a while. The fuel injectors are in bad need of cleaning so I dont push it right now.

What's the point of even racing to your top speed? Hell, what's the point of even trying to find out the top speed? You can easily race from 0-80 and figure out which car is faster. Hell, it's an automatic non-turbo rx7, i'll give you the outcome of almost every race you'll have, you'll lose! There, no need to do it anymore!
