top performance out of non turbo

i was reading another forum and someone said that if you put headers and a nice exauhst on your car it will improve your performance. i was planing on getting a electric fan for my engine to pump out some more horsepower but i dont have a turbo. if i get headers and i nice exauhst how much of a diference will it make. because i dont want to buy all the stuff and have it not make a difference.

Free flowing exhaust makes a world of difference on a rotary. Definitely felt an increase in power on the butt dyno. Dyno sheets should be floating around here somewhere...

headers and exhaust is probably one of the best bolt-on mods you can do for an NA. Electric fans will give you no more horsepower.

You live in Cali?
Then what you're proposing is ILLEGAL.

On top of that, opening up the exhaust on an NA increases noise significantly.
Cops in Cali HATE noisy exhausts.

If you still insist on doing this, keep in mind that the engine will maybe make 200bhp at the most.
The car will be quick, but it's not going to be eye-popping fast.

I live in CA and in the future plan to buy the Racing Beat cat-back, header, and bonez hi-flow cat. Would that be too loud or under 100DP?

BTW, it's an S5 NA.

I live in Cali and since hearing some of the trucks around here I have no problem with having a loud exhaust. I heard a toyota tacoma yesterday, and it sounded like he was running just a header, and I didn't see and exhaust tips in the rear, it was loud as hell.

Is it possible for an NA to NOT sound like a chainsaw?

I had a RB header, Random Tech cat, and HKS cat back on my second FC (my first FC was stock). The butt dyno dont lie. Probably picked up a good 15 to 20 hp. And it sounded nice and throaty. No chainsaw action. I am now on my 3rd FC and I just purchased the RB header again w/Bonez cat and Rotary Performance cat back system. Due to arrive on the 14th. will update once installed.

hi flow cats are such a waste of money and time IMO......either go with cats or get a test pipe

so my best chance is getting a bonez hi flow cat because it increases my performance and i have a better chance of getting my car to pass smog?

The only reason I said hi-flow cat was because they are available on rx7.com. Wouldn't regular cats be more restrictive than hi-flow? I live in California and I don't want to be driving around with a pre-silencer, I would rather just keep a cat on, the car is mainly for DD anyways. What's a good cat that can withstand the rotarys heat and bolt on to Racing Beats header and cat back?

The only cat made that bolts to the RB header is thre mazdatrix one thats $$$. Anything else your going to have to weld a short lenght of pipe to to make it fit. Just about any good quality highflow cat will stand up. I had cheap catco cats on my car (without the header) for a long time with no problems. I'm about to try out magnaflow cats as well.

I'm interested as well in gettin a beefy NA, would I feel a difference with a RB header and RB cat-back? I want an exhaust that sounds nice but not nice like rice.

just wondering, is it any quieter with the Bonez cat? compared to the RB presilencer i mean. if you don't notice any power drop, but it quietens it down a lot and makes the car stink less, that is good.

oh, and i'm pretty sure the Bonez cat will just bolt between the RB collected header and stock y-pipe.

No rx7.com does make one for the RB header. It bolts right up, in place of the presilencer.

I find with stock ports the stock manifold tends to work better than the RB header.
