Top Mount Intercooler Differences

Did some searching and can someone confirm that USDM and Jspec intercoolers have slightly different mounting points? OR - is it S4 to S5 that has different mounts?

I am trying to mount a top mount intercooler to an engine I acquired (I suspect is S5 Jspec turbo). The mounting points on the intercooler I have aren't wide enough. I am trying to mount what I think is an S4 USDM top mount intercooler.

Anyone been through this and can help?

I really want to bolt this in the right way and not just mount one side and cut the other mounts off.

Help.

So, anyone have a nice looking S5 Jspec intercooler laying around they would part ways with?

PM me!

an s4 intercooler won't really fit onto an s5 engine because the manifold interferes with the core, you can fit them in the reverse order but the ic won't sit quite level due to the s5 having higher mount points which is why you're seeing the s4 manifold appearing to be not wide enough. either intercooler can fit on either engine but the s4 can't actually be bolted down, rubs on the manifold and hits the alternator charge post.

the differences between usdm and jspec intercoolers aren't in the mounting points at all, slightly different cores and accessory ports on the intercooler as well as labelling.

I suspect this engine has S5 Jspec manifolds.

I suspect this is an S4 USDM intercooler.

This is how it fits and it sucks:

Its almost as if there isn't enough distance between the mounts on the left and the mounts on the right.

WTH?

looks like a s4 jdm intercooler on a s5 jdm block.

Its not a JDM intercooler.

It says Turbo II on it.

oh right, i thought that capped hose was for something running behind the intercooler instead of the USDM AWS solenoid.

I would have made that a cleaner install - but the intercooler doesn't fit anyway.

Scott,

Actually, I do. I assume this is for one of your "Lemons" projects, so just pay for the UPS store boxing & shipping and owe me a favor to be named later.

PM me the shipping info.

Jon

^^^ NO, its not for LeMons actually. If it was LeMony, do you actually think I would be sweating a few mounting points that are off?

Its for my girlfriend's car I am building her. Its an 88 Turbovert. It has an S5 Jspec motor in it. Being the girl she is, a crooked intercooler and sawzall modifications doesn't sit well with her.

Therefore, I am trying my hardest to find her an S5 Jspec Intercooler that fits! (I'm not being picky, but she wants it in really nice condition too - since that's what really matters to her).

Here she is working on her car. I had her under it zip tying my starter interlock modifications out of the way:

One more thing:

Anyone that is searching for the solution and comes across this thread... a USDM S5 intercooler does not solve the problem. I just got one this evening and the mounting holes are too narrow and in the same place as the USDM S4 intercooler I have.

Basically I have learned that if you have Jspec manifolds, only a Jspec intercooler will mount to the factory mounts.
