Why wouldn't it work? Keep the TMIC really cold for those 12-15 seconds

Might work a little bit!

I think they do that so the air temp's don't get too hot. I have seen subaru guy's put ice on your TMIC and autox with the ice; fill up again after their run.

Wouldn't they have to worry about the motor cracking with hot motor and cold water dripping on it? That doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I was doing a lil bracket racing in my 91 TII and was dialed in at 13.9 doing really well on not breaking out.

Left a bag of ice on the tmic for about 15 minutes. Ran a 13.72...I broke out big time and lost. Kinda mellodramatic

Edit - Yeah, I double bagged my 5lbs bag of ice...so water didn't drip down on the hot parts.

There is so little water dripping onto the engine that whatever does fall down will just quickly evaporate. I haven't heard of anyone "cracking" their engine just by putting a bag of ice on top of it!

Ice and dry ice cal also be used to cure vapor lock.
