tmic cheap fix idea

I was thinking about wrapping or somehow insulating the bottom of my stock intercooler with some thermal product or sheild, and hopefully reduce heat soak. For what ever gain it may be... Would you guys think it's a waste of time?

Well considering that you I/C should, as in did from the factory, have a heat shield/water shield under the intercooler - it would be a waste of time.

If its not there however, putting something in its place wouldn't be a waste of time at all.

Oh, I never new that. After driving it hard, when i touch the intercooler it feels just as hot as everything else under the hood. And i don't think I see a factory sheild under there either. What do think of these for a barrier? http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/th...rier_index.php

How much boost are you running?

Yeah the reflective blanket would probably take the place of the factory piece (but takethe I/C off, its nearly impossible to see it through the core) however even after putting that on, your I/C will still be hot after some driving....its only at speed that it actually begins to cool off.

I have adhesive foil-lined insulation stuck to the underside of the stock IC shield (which is riveted to the underside of the IC if you've never looked). It made little if any difference to the measured intakes temps.
