Tire Widths on stock rims.
Hey,
I've got the stock 15" '89 rims on my car and I'm wondering how wide of a tire I can fit on them and still be able to fit under a) the front wheel well b) the rear wheel well
...Can I even fit tires any wider than the 205/60/R15's I've got?

about a 225/50 25 is the largest that the stock 15 inchers will fit.
But that size will throw off the speedo a little (it will read that you are going slightly faster than you really are)

Due to the 6 inch width of the wheel, making full use of street designed 225 tread isn't going to happen.
If you want Maximum grip on a budget, get a set of reasonably priced good tires in the OEM tire size.
A set of 205/50-15 Yokohama AVS intermediates or Pirelli P6000 are going to do more for your handling than a set of bargain basement 225/50-15.
