tips for electronic coolant guage install?

tips for electronic coolant guage install?

i know theres info somewhere around here but i was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to piont me in the right direction. like can i just splice wires and use the stock sensor or shoudl i put a new hole in somewhere? so on and so forth

I drilled and tapped a hole in the water pump housing just below the thermostat. You can't use the stock sender. You could buy an adapter to fit the new sender to the old location, but for me it was just easier to buy the 1/8NPT tap and drill bit, and install it.

u dont gotta worry anbout metal shavings getting all int he colant and such?

You need to pull the housing off in order to tap the sender into it so you'll have to drain your coolant. I tapped mine into the coolant filler neck. I know it's after the thermostat but I'm not sure if that'll affect the operation. The gauge seems to work fine and it's much better than stock!

well, you need to drain enough coolant to install, and I put some paper towels in the hole to prevent shavings from getting into the neck. Also, dab the drill bit and tap in some grease, it'll catch most of the shavings.
