timing

Hi, I have try to search but didn't find much, This is for a friend, he has an 91 rx7 n/a that he just turboed, he is insane crazy putting 1200cc injectors in, anyways that's not the reason i'm hear, he needs to know what to set the timing to? He keeps on blowning his motor left and right and now he wants to know how he can or what he can do to cause this, he has alot of fuel, but when we turn down the fuel it blows up, no the point is now is his timing I think, we are just guessing wat it is at when we mess around with it, I need to know what degree it's suppose to be set at, also which spark plug wire to tap with the gun and is there a mark on the block or the crank or what ever to show the 10 degree, I mean on supras they have these mark of 0-5-10-15 on there block so we just turn the align the crank pully to match 10, but I'm not sure if the rx7 has that, I didn't look into that yet, but he is going nuts trying to see what it suppose to be at. Oh also he needs your help to get rid of the factory fpr on the rail, he said somthing about it not being able to come off. unless cut or somthing, PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANY INFO ON ALL OF THIS HELP ME AND HIM OUT SO WE CAN KILL ON V8'S AND RUN 12'S WITHOUT A BLOW MOTOR (AGAIN) THANKS GUYS.

STEVE

We need a lot more information!

Is he running this turbo set-up on the stock NA CPU? Or does he have an EMS? or what?

The NA CPU won't retard timing under boost (obviously), so I can see how you're blowing engines...

The crank pulley has 2 timing marks, 5* ATDC for the leading (yellow mark) and 20* ATDC for the trailing (red mark).

At stock idle rpm 750, you set the timing for the yellow mark, with the timing light attached to the L1 wire.

I have always ran my turbo NA at stock timing. That's not ideal, because there's no boost-retard. If you want to play it safe, you'll want to retard the timing somewhat, but then the car will be down on power off of boost.

Just another note: paying attention to the turbo-NA scene as I do, I have noticed that almost all S5 cars that have been turbocharged will blow shortly later. I am coming to the conclusion that the compression on those engines is simply too high.

Or am I running toooo retarded on my timing? INFO PLEASE GUYS. THANKS
