timing , jump the intial set conector or not

More for curiosity but i have never jumped the initial set conector for timing and they have all ran great. I was talking to another mechanic an he says that the rx7 needs to be jumped. I havent read anyting about jumping this connecter here or in any books to my recall. Does it matter between years, ive only worked on second gens, maybe he meant on a fd. If some one could clear this up it would be great. thanks

I never jumper the initial set coupler. I might have once in a past life, but not in this life. I mean, go jumper it and set the timing. Now unjumper it and check the timing again. Ain't a gonna change squat.

About the only thing I see it doing is putting the BAC in a set duty cycle and no more and no less.

If it makes you feel better, jumper it. It only takes a few moments. Ain't a gonna effect the timing. Just thinking. It MIGHT effect the timing if you were trying to time a COLD engine or a engine running over 1200 rpms. I don't know. I wouldn't time a car unless it were fully HOT and the rpms well under 1000 rpm.
