Question timing issues

ok just about everybody messed with the timing on my car so i think thats whats givin me trouble now. so what i need to know is well the car the lowest sustained idle i can get is 1000rpms how accurate will that make it when i check the timin? will it be enough to make it run better to where i can try an get the idle lower or not???

If it is TRULY at or below 1000 rpm, imho you can set the timing with a timing light. I'm fairly sure/positive that the rpm that the ECU makes the timing advance, is closer to 1100rpm.

yeah it will run at 1000 the best i could get was about 850 but it sat there for a few seconds an then died. one thing that makes me really think the timing is off is it has the sound of a piston car runnin with the valves tapping
