Exclamation Timing!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright i was messing with the car tonight and i had set the time to were it looked best cause i cant get the car to idle right, it was at about 1500. i set it to were it looked ok, but ever since i got the motor in this car i've had a Terriable stumble at 4200+ in any gear. tonight i was messing with it i seen someone say about stumble may be detination so retard it well couldent get it started, then messing around moving it advanced, car ran way better, turned the crank angle probally about 1/2 or more of the ajustment range. now i just dont know if its something else or if it was timing. the car lost almost all the stumble ( still could feel it), started better and idles alittle better. But what are signs that its running TO advanced? other than the timing light cause i cant get it to idle where it needs to. only thing i seen while running it up the road it got alittle warm, but the damn cooling system has always been acting up.

Set the timing to stock using a timing light (you are using one aren't you?!) and the instructions in the FSM. NOW LEAVE IT THERE!
If your car isn't running right with stock timing, then the timing isn't the problem, something else is. Don't mess around with your timing unless you know everything else is 100%. This is a recipe for disaster. One good dose of detonation because of timing that's too advanced will kill your engine.
Diagnose the real problem and fix that.

thing is i cant get it to idle so how far advanced should it be at around 1500 RPM? thats what im having problems with. i was just seeing cause more advanced maid it run good. I jsut what to know signs of detination and signs of to advanced. I know detination you can hear and the engine sounds Great and i dont see how advanceing would take away the teriable hesitaion i had.

watch your temp gauge with the timing advanced (ie. turning CAS clockwise). since you have high idle, cant start with retarded timing etc, it sounds like you have an air intake leak somewhere... make sure spark plugs are in tight, vacuum hoses all connected, and use carb cleaner to check for idle changes when sprayed around the engine bay

when you change the intake manifolds, make sure u put in new gaskets. and also replace the rubber O rings in between the lower intake -> engine. DO NOT re-use them! someone warned me about reusing them ages ago when i was doing it.. and i thought, stuff that, they look good. but sure enough, it leaked like anything and i had to redo the lot.
