Timing ?

Timing ?

Just a ? to clear up rotary stuff. If what I have read is correct to get the timing right within very close degress atleast is to rotate the engin to you get the yellow line lined up with the guid pin on the main drive pully and align the dot and line on the assentric shaft and you should be good.

Is this it? Thats what I did and car starts and all. But where is top dead center on rotor 1? Is it not like an normal engin where you must be on top dead center on piston 1? If it is you have to rotate it till it is on rotor one and not rotor 2 corect?

Another thing is when I was doing this I held my finger in rotor 1 L hole and rotate till I felt compreshion from this rotor then rotor 2 and rotated till I knew rotor one was coming next. However where the compreshion actual happens the yellow line is no where neer the guid pin.

Align the CAS upon install as you stated earlier. This will get you in the ballpark to start the car. After started and warmed up (make sure she idles below about 800 rpm), get out the timing light (go get one if you don't have one, it'll pay for itself) and tweak the CAS to yellow mark perfection on the L1 wire.

Simple enough, eh?

Timing these seems to go against evrything I have ever ben told or done. Why do you not need a top dead compresion on rotor one?

Timing a rotary is not hard at all, it is incredibly simple. You just need to stop over thinking it and confusing yourself. L1 lines up with the yellow mark at 5 degrees ATDC and T1 lines up with the red mark at 20 degrees ATDC, that's all you have to care about. Just line up the yellow mark on the pulley with the pin, restab the CAS, start up the car and let it get warm at ~750 rpm, and adjust the timing as needed with the timing light. If you line up L1 (yellow mark) properly at 5 degrees ATDC, then T1 SHOULD be lined up already, and will just need to verify it is on the red mark.

because technically there are 3 top dead centers. A rotary is a rotary, it is ment to defy everything you have ever known; thats why they made it

Read the 2nd post, Timing by JudgeITO. Most of it is on performance stuff but it has some good information about how timing works with a rotary and what it all means. Good read, I learned some stuff from it.
