timing?

I am having a problem getting my car to idiol after swapping in a used motor. IT seems like a timeing problem but I am not sure. The car will start but will not idiol. It has a miss that starts to smooth out after 2000-3000 rpm. The car is also smoking alot of white smoke. I know the electric fan switch is not connected and it need a new exhaust flang gasket. I took the blown s5 engine out of my car and put the intake, fuel lines, and vacum lines on an s4 engine and put it in the car. If anyone has any ideas I could really use some help.

Thanx
Noel

White smoke means burning coolant.

Well the bad idle is probably due to a number of things the biggest one being vacume leaks. So can you hear any hissing when the car is running. But it could also be cause by many other things to. And you may have wasted you time doing the engine swap if it smokes alot, becasue white smoke = burning coolant. Or you are burning oil, and that is just as bad.
