TII wont hold idle
I cant seem to get the damn thing to hold an idle. I tried to adjust the TPS, but I did it when the car was cold. All I could get the multimeter to read was 500 ohms. Then again I dont know how to use the damn thing. I adjusted the idle screw, the mix screw, tried jumping that one jumper, I forgot what its called. Am I just going about this all wrong? I thought the car wouldnt idle because if the timing. Well I cant check the timing without the car running.
First, unplug the TPS from the ECU. Then, using multimeter, measure across the green and black wire. On a cold engine, this should read well above 1000 ohms, because the thermo coupler on the other side of the throttle body should be in, setting up fast idle. Even if this is way misadjusted (it was on my car, I basically had no fast idle), it should still read 1000 ohms, the same reading as with the engine fully warmed up. To adjust, there is a kind of L bracket with a screw near the bottom, by the TPS. Turn to adjust. If you get it adjusted, you should check to be sure that it increases smoothly to at least 4000 ohms at the high limit. If it does not, the TPS is bad. If you get it all ok, the car should at least try to idle, assuming no vacuum leaks. Hope this helps.
