TII Tranny and NA rearend. What driveshaft?

OK, I need some confirmation that the NA auto drive shaft will mate to the bolts correctly. I understand that it will have to be lengthed.

I've got a 88 GTU so I want to keep my rearend to save me the trouble of swapping that stuff out for something I already have.

If this is thw wrong one then what driveshaft will work?

From what I was told all the n/a and the TII stuff from the engine back will not fit each other.

I am doing the same conversion and what you do is get the larger driveshaft yoke for the turbo tranny and take it to a driveline shop and they can weld and balance it for you for around 50 bucks. Of course you have to tell them how long you want it or haul the car there and let them measure.

See the "propeller shaft" chapter of the factory service manual for dimensions. Besides the option of having a shop customize the AT driveshaft or build a custom driveshaft, I believe that Mazdatrix will sell their replaceable U-joint driveshaft in an NA-TII configuration upon special order. Most of the original driveshaft u-joints are shot at this age, so a new one may be a better choice.

The TII rear end and halfshafts are stronger than the GTU rear end and halfshafts. If you use the weaker GTU components, these will be the weak point in your car's drivetrain.

For 250 I can get a whole rear end.

I'm doing this because I can't afford to get that right now.

I understand the halfshafts and the drive shaft are smaller but I'm gonna do this.

I've heard that the bolt configuration and diameter is the difference. Someone posted that the NA Auto shaft will bolt correctly but be too short.

This is what I'm looking for.
