TII Starts and dies and smokes a lot

I am at my knowledge's end.

I just bought an 87 Turbo II from a guy in Charleston that "said" it just quit on him one day after he'd been driving it for a while. I got it for a track car so I figured I would just work on it when I had time. when I gt it home I could start it, and it would idle for 3 secs, then shut off. More like flood. Its running really rich, I can tell by the amount of grayish smoke coming out of the exhaust, and the amount of fuel in liquid form on the plugs.

The car was really really stock, so I did the normal stuff that rotor head would do: remove emissions, and block off, remove OMP and run premix, plug all the vacuum leaks, check for spark, upgrade fuel pump, remove pulsation dampener, and then try again. other than the smoke changing color to bluish gray ( I think I added too much 2 stroke) it still is doing the same problem.

It will only start if I give it a full throttle and then once it starts it will only run above 2500. Won't idle, and it sounds like it has compression, nice even lobes on all sides.

I've read that it might be the AFM, any other suggestions? thanks

frankie

vacuum leak

but that would cause it to run lean not rich. unless someone put in larger injectors or they are stuck open.

i would start with an actual compression test then check the injectors as per the FSM to see if they leak without cranking the engine over.

could be consuming oil, which is in turn fouling the spark plugs and causing the smoke/film on the plugs.
