Question TII Rear Speaker Wires: Which is Positive???

I took out the stock football-shaped 4" speakers in the rear strut towers of my '90 TII. I plan to install some 2-way 6.5" speakers.

There are two Blue/Green-spotted wires that I need to cut the stock harness from and crimp on some connectors. One of the Blue/Green-spotted wires has an Orange stripe.
Two quick questions:

(1) Which one is Positive?

(2) Will I be able to run a 6.5" speaker with these wires?

I don't know alot about audio installations, but I'm cheap enough to not pay for the labor and learn myself

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just go to radio shack and buy a multimeter for like $5. Also it will come in handy in case you ever do any other wiring

are you running them off the stock deck?

right side speaker should have blue and blue with orange strip, orange is neg.

left side should be brown and brown with white strip, white is neg.

I am just completing stereo upgrade, should be complete by tomorrow. If the towers are the same as the 86-92 then you can fit the 6 1/2"speakers in without any problem. I bought mine from www.crutchfield.com, they came with some 'glass mounting rings I didn't need. The stock rings worked without any modifications. Pretty simple really. Just make sure you get the (+) positive and the (-) negatives on the correctly on both speakers. The wire colors in mine were the same as mentioned above.

And by the way, you gain satisfaction and learn by doing it yourself if you can. I paid $10 at Tune-Town to have 8 guage slipped thru the firewall, tipped the guy a few, and upon a return trip for another wire thru, he did it no charge.

Thanks, 89t2 for the info on the wires.

Yes, I am running it off the stock Radio/Tape Deck (No CD) with Power Antenna. Will I have a problem powering the 6.5" in the rear if it is only off of the stock deck?

The stock 4" footballs in the rear came with a metal ring. I'll have to grind out the cutout about 0.5"+ around to fit the 6.5".

Oh, I see what you mean, you didn't have round speakers. I didn't see you said 'footballs'. If you can use the round plastic ones I got from Crutchfield, let me know, they're yours. Probably won't work since they are round. Your head unit will power those speakers fine, but if you install an amplifier the sound quality will improve dramatically.

RLBRX7 is correct. Power is not needed so much to run the speakers, it is more a clarity issue. I run amps on my system, not for volume, but for clarity. Although you get the volume with the clarity if you want to use it. The more power the better it sounds, it doesn't necessarily have to be loud.

Cool They're round speakers in a football-shaped frame.

The stock 4" cones/surrounds are actually round, but there are only 2 screws (instead of the usual 4 screws used 4" rounds) used to attach to the metal ring so just the frame of the round speakers are "football" shaped.

I really need to get a digital camera...

If you are offering the plastic mounting rings from Crutchfield - thanks for offering, I can actually probably use them. It may save me from having to ground down the stock metal ring. Can you give me an idea of the overall diameter and the cutout diameter? How do you want to coordinate mailing them to me?
