TII hood scoop

Ok, seriously: why is the hood scoop off center by about 2 inches?

Everytime I look at my car from directly front on, I ask myself what was Mazda's reasoning for not just centering it. I like the slightly offcenter scoop, but I'm wondering if a centered scoop would look better. So is there any real reason for this?

If it were in the perfect center, then 2" of the intercooler wouldn't be getting any air, and on the other side the air that would go into the scoop, would escape into the engine compartment instead of going through the intercooler... duh!

Yes, Liquid, its centered for the engine, not the hood...I don't know about you guys...But behind the wheel of an RX-7 T2 with that hood scoop, is one of the best looking sights from any car IMHO!
Sure is wasn't the best place for a IC, but it looks GREAT!

heh well of course the IC would have to move over 2 inches, but there is room to do that in my mind. Whenever I go FMIC I'm tempted to buy an n/a hood and sell the t2 hood.

that'd be the thing to do... less drag, sleeper/cleaner look, more $$ in the pocket for mods

If you look at how the IC is connected to the TB, if the IC was moved over to center it in the engine bay it's outlet would be on top of the TB. You would need to have the IC's discharge on the end of the tank instead of the bottom, and then use a very tight 180deg bend to get around into the TB. So it's for purely practical reasons.
