TII good deal or not?

So theres a TII for sale and it has a cracked apex seal, NO fuel-injectors and air box/AFM, The ECU and emissions wiring harness have been removed and there is no exhaust and front pass caliper...the car is $600 how much would it cost to fix it and would that be worth it?

Offer $400 for the car if the body is in really good shape.

It'll cost quite a bit to get it running again.
New engine- $2000-$4000
Exhaust- $50+ used
Brakes- $45+ used
Emissions equipment- ? wide range of prices
etc....

If you have about $5,000 not including the car itself then I think its fixable.
Are you planning on doing the work yourself?

I paid $900 for my TII and have about $3,000 in it so far not including the engine which I will be building myself. The main reason for so much is due to the fact that I want better than OEM suspension, brakes, fuel system, etc...

a lot of times its eaiser to buy a complete car qnd will save you money in the long run. however, building the car yourself will teach you a lot about the car and after the car is finished, you'll have a great sense of accomplishment and the car will mean that much more to you. offer what you can afford and plan on spending some cash to bring the car back. you also need to find if anything was "hacked" out or if everything was nicely removed.

ok....

I cant believe people throw money out there like that when these engines are as simple as they are....... stupid stupid IMHO

I dont even have 4k into my entire power plant........ which includes a SP REW, GT42, and the haltech E8 new........

$
1200 - - Haltech E8 New
850 - - New Garrett gt42
500 - - REW Block
300 - - RA Seals
140 - - Gasket kit
= $2990

plus i made my intake manifold, turbo manifold, oil pan, so that is just the cost of raw materials, which isnt much

some of you guys are nuts....

The original poster could everything he needs with a different engine running for between 1250-1500 if he went with a jspec..... That would have EVERYTHING he needs besides a harness and maybe an ecu....

+ he would have his old block for parts or to rebuild

and for the noob who would pay $1200 for injectors..... wow... just wow

I put it so high because I did not know if he was/has the ability to rebuild the engine himself or if he was going to have a shop do it.

The cheapest I have seen a rebuild by a shop go for is from rotaryresurection and karack $1200-$1800 or so for a rebuild from them.
Mazdatrix, RB, etc....cost damn near $5,000 for a good engine build alone.

If the body is clean, it's an absolutely great deal. ****, even if it's not that clean it's a deal. As long as it's not salvaged and doesn't need bodywork and everything replaced (brakes, fuel lines, gas tank, etc) replaced you've found a great deal. Don't expect it to be a quick or cheap fix tho.

It would be a great project if that's what you want, but if you just want to drive a turbo Rx-7 and work on it occasionally then skip it.

Thumbs up

Wow, I would jump all over that... The deal is almost TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

Haha, JK I'm selling it tomorrow to a friend of mine.

C'mon though, you can buy a set of s4 TII injectors for $50, an AFM for $30, a wiring harness for $120-$150, seats for $100/pair and the engine could be rebuilt for around $600 considering all of the seals are intact (meaning no apex-seal blow-out, just cracked). That's oh, $1000 to get the car running and driving--or easilly less than $2000 for a rebuilt engine TII if you know what you're doing. I would keep it, but I've got other uses for that Turbo II's "spot".

I just did this over a 6 month period and everything he is saying is true. Set some $ aside for the small things like gaskets etc. I know my car much better and have a sense of pride when showing the engine. I say go for it

Well, luckily I got rid of it today so you didn't have to worry spending $4000 on an engine and $1200 for fuel-injectors.
