TII Engine Questions
I just got an 87 RX-7 TII with a blown Apex seal on the rear rotor.
I've already pulled the motor and disassembled it. The broken Apex seal gouged the rotor and housing severally. Although the front rotor and apex seals appear in good shape. The front rotor housing is gouged (maybe from a previous re-build??)
- Looks like a rebuild it out of the question with the current parts. Does anyone sell used housing and rotors within Mazda spec?
- I've emailed several places about a j-spec replacement, but most of them are out of stock. Anyone know a company who has them in stock?
- I don't think the housing can be rebuilt, but if anyone knows of a way I'd be interested to find out more.
- Finally, most places charge for a core on rebuilt motors. I don't think my core has any value as is.. Any suggestions for buying a rebuilt one and saving some money on the core charge?
Thanks for your help!

Well, after lots of research I was able to find a j-spec engine in Texas for $995 +tax..
I spoke to Kevin at Rotary Resurrections and he said he can do a rebuild on mine and replace the out of spec parts for about $1500. Has anyone had a motor rebuilt by Kevin? If yes, can you let me know how it went..
I'm also thinking of doing a street port. Is it worth the $200? How much horsepower will I gain? Will it have any negative impact on engine wear?
Thanks

Hey man Kevin has built and work on a ton of cars for me. As a matter of fact I was just down there this past weekend. Rode in a SP 87 turbo he built. That thing is Drum tight. Plus he has built to engines for me. He is the man.

Between a jspec and a rebuild, most definitely get the rebuild. Or else you might just end up with 2 engines needing rebuilds. And if your interested in performance beyond stock, go ahead with the streetport, you should be very happy with it.
