TII drivetrain swap to an NA
Just wondering if anyone has ever swapped a TII drivetrain to thier N/A car? What troubles were there? I know I'd need the entire drivetrain to do it and I'll need a costom rear crossmember. But is the bell housing the same? Will it just bolt up to a 87 6 port N/A Engine? And can I use my current flywheel and clutch (already dumped a shitload of money into those)? What all is included in the swap? Thanks for the info...

bolt-on to the body
you need: t2 flywheel, clutch, presure plate, release fork, new release bearing, tranny, propeller shaft, differential, driveshafts, front counter weight (not sure on that one) and a 54mm socket with a heavy duty wrench for more than 300 lbs/ of torque believe me its hard i broke my 1/2 wrech trying to take it off had to buy a pressure bar wrench used on trucks.
while your at it you should replace
the Pilot Bearing which requires a special tool "Pilot Bearing Remover" DO NOT THOUCH THE PILOT BEARING WITHOUT THE REMOVER its practically imposible and you endup breaking the bearing leaving your essential shaft useless.
rebuild the driveshaft if you want their already off, new boots and you can check for bad/ twisted cage, inner rings and *****
some wiring
a turbo tranny can take heavy abuse and n/a tranny giveup to easily

I know about the flywheel.. I had a bitch of a time getting mine off to install my light flywheel... But wtf do you need all that for? Why cant you just use the NA clutch and flywheel and swap the bell housings? Also, that would negate the need for a new starter. Or do they just not fit... I'm not giving up my light fly and clutch.. Has less than 5k miles on em and I bought em for $800... Damnit, there has to be a way to make it work...

They will not match up the turbo uses a bigger flywheel and the starter is a must.
See if you can get a light flywheel for turbo car since you have the counterweight done. Don’t go cheap, even if it matches the turbo tranny has bigger parts for more torque that will not match the clutch, or can break any part.
i don’t know anyone that hasn't done the complete swamp and gone partial.

Hmm.. well thanks for the info... Now I'm back were I started.. with a slow car, and no possible way to make it much faster without spending over a grand... At least I was smart enough to buy a motorcycle instead of wasting it on my car... I've already got $6000 into it.. I guess its not bad considering how well it looks, how increadible it handles, and how relativly quick it is.. I guess I'll leave it at that..

I JUST did this swap a couple of weeks ago. You need:
TII tranny
TII driveshaft
TII differential and halfshafts (easier to swap the whole rear subframe, straight bolt-in)
TII flywheel
TII clutch
TII preassure plate
TII starter
TII clutch slave cylinder
Normal tools, except a 2 1/8" socket (cheaper than the metric and fits fine) and a BIG honkin impact gun.
You cannot use the NA clutch and flywheel, they are smaller... the TII bellhousing bolts up fine, but is a larger diameter. The TII bellhousing WILL come off the tranny... BUT... the NA one is built on, so you can't just swap that.
You don't have to change the front counterweight.
Frankly, this is a medium-difficulty project. It took PaulC and I 3 days... but they were cold, nasty, rainy days, and it would have went a LOT quicker with better conditions and the right tools. Right Paul?
Either way, I don't recommend doing this, except in the case of a convertible that wants to be a TII hybrid.

Now you need to change your signature to a FC3C instead of a FC3S to reflect the convertible status.

PM piston eater, he is a friend of mine, and he is doing this right now to his 1990 N/A (im helping him with it). He's swapping a new driveshaft, tranny, engine, rear end, clutch, and re-sufacing the old flywheel. You do have to do all of this though from my understanding, and make sure u set aside plenty of time to do it in.
