TID installed, MAJOR boost creep

Well last night a rushed home after work and installed my TID and a cone filter before all the freaky kids starting beating down the door for candy.

The car, 87 TII, 142K mile motor, 500mile rebuilt turbo, mildly ported wastegate, 2.25" downpipe (old, old HKS DP) and a 3" straight pipe cat-back (except there are no cats). Stock injectors, no emissions, no mufflers, etc. Manual boost controller.

I turned the boost down a turn or two before even starting it up, I knew I'd be getting more boost with the TID and a cone filter. First run in 3rd gear gives about 7-8 psi until about 4500-5000 rpm and then the boost just climbs like crazy, I manage to lift at around 12 psi. Turn the boost down ALL THE WAY on the manual controller, basically I get similar results with lower initial boost, 6psi then again around 4500-5000rpm it heads over 10psi in a heartbeat.

So I put the stock TID back on WITH the cone filter instead of the stock airbox, boost is now 6psi until 4500-5000 rpm then it goes up to just about 10psi then drops to 9psi before redline.

Problem solved? NO, I try it in 4th gear and it starts at 6psi, 4.5-5K rpms it heads up quickly, I lifted at 11psi.

I knew the stock intake was restrictive but I didn't think it was this bad, I had to turn about 3-4 turns on the manual controller to get 9psi before.

I guess my exhaust is a little more free flowing than I expected. I'm going to pull the turbo again and port the wastegate more, does anyone have pics of their ported wastegate?

Anyone else have this much problem with boost creep after the TID?

Thanks,
Jeff
