Ticking Engine?

Hi all. i rescued an 87 rx7 turbo 2 from a guy who had it stored away and ignored for at least 2-3 yrs.
i have recentlly found that this 7 has a few issues.

first issue being a pulsating idle. i have found here a few things to try to fix those so i will do those first in hope that it will resolve the problem.

The second undiagniosed issue is an od ticking coming from what sounds like ball bearing in a tin car at idles below 2500. i thought i was a gasket leak or something in the exuast sytem so i replaced all the gasket from the cat back. But i still have the sound.

I had a shop try to find the issue but they couldnt find where it was comeing from. they said it might be a misfireing as a result of a sticking apex seal.

Any ideas from you vets where this issue might be result from?

I would go with turbo on this one. Probaby has excessive play.

the guy i rescued it from said the turbo was rebuilt. The shop said it had a growl but it was ok. would a bad turbo explian lag in the low end hesitation?

More likely the lag/ low end problems are related to the mis-adjusted or bad TPS that is causing the idle problems as well.
