Throttle Problems

Well just now when I started my car, it started idled below 1k, then above, then below, and etc...
Then it died.
I tried starting it again, and it did the same thing, so I gave it a little gas, and it died.
I finally got it started, and it seemed that once it was up to operating temperature, it ran fine.
This is only the second day that it has ever done that to me, but now I'm starting to worry.
Does anyone know what this problem might be?

Thanks,
Shaina

A vac line is disconnected, or you have a intake leak.

Make sure there are no codes in the computer, sounds like the TPS needs adjusting. Of coarse tune up is always a plus, can't go wrong.

So this could also be my reason for why my car sometimes stalls out when I hit the brakes?

Your brake deal is needing more info. Can't say.

Your computer / ECU is set up to tell you what codes are popped using your engine light. Do a search on pulling engine codes for the process. Some years are different than others. Hope this helps.

Here's the link in the FAQ for shop manuals

I read online somewhere that if your ECU is throwing more than one code it will only show you the one with th lowest value. Is that true? Here's the link http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/article...odes/main.html

Sounds like a Vacuum leak.

Well I figured out my problem...

It was the fact that there was a hose missing from my blow off valve to my air box so the air wasn't getting recirculated.

So I put in a hose, and all seems well now.

Thanks for all the help!

Well what I thought was my problem, fixed it at that moment but then the next day I fired it up it did the same thing.
It's idling way too low, so it won't stay running.
Lately I've just been sitting in the car keeping my foot on the gas so it idles high enough and I let off once it reaches normal operating temperature.

I checked for vaccum leaks, by spraying carb fluid around my engine, but it never surged or anything, so I don't think that is the cause.

I'm going to check my throttle position sensor, and I was going to run a scan tool on it, but I guess at this shop, we don't have a scan tool for my car. So I'm out of luck.

Some people have been telling me that it sounds like my car is not getting fuel.

Any ideas?

I orded a new intake gasket, so as soon as that comes in, I'll take a look at the tps.

Hey I have the N/A TPS from it still so if it works for the Turbo throttle body then I will let you have it. It's taking up room just like the rest of the parts. I had a similar problem from it after I had just dropped the engine in but the surging never stopped before. Then I messed with it more and it stopped doing it for me. I did test the TPS and it was giving the appropriate readings at the time.

as said before, sounds like the tps. is the car s4 or s5?? s4's have no CEL so you have to either use the mazda one ($$$) or rig one up with led lights. there is a write-up on teamfc3s i belive. if you have an s5, just check the codes via the CEL and find out what the code translates to.

Well wtf...

So I was looking at my car yesterday and I realized that my throttle body was a little loose. I tightened it up, and now... it hasn't died once...

Hahaha, I don't know.
Guess it could be that simple.

wow.... I am glad you figured it out.. I can't believe your carb cleaner spraying didn't cause a surge with your TB being loose...

Don't feel too bad after changing the front brake pads on my nissan p/u truck I was driving around and was thinking "man this feels strange almost like my suspension is broken or something." kept driving got it to my buddy's house who lived close to were I was at the time, jacked up the truck and who forgot to tighten lug nuts when they put the passenger side tire on? lol glad I caught it...

Another time same truck, had the tranny out changing the clutch and we were relocating the jack stands (the tranny is already out) and I said "Hey Put it in gear and put the e brake on" all I got in return was a blank stare and then he looked over at the transmission on the concrete..

hopefully one of those two stories made you feel a little better.
