Thoughts on megasquirt stand alone

Whats up everyone... i have a 88 rx7 with a street ported 13b with some other mods (in my sig). I am really thinking about running a megasquirt on my n/a. I know i might be overkill, but i've been helping a good friend rig up his TII with a megasquirt, and the more i think about it, the more i want one. I'd rather run a SAFC II, but it seems that so much more can be done for the money, and i've already seen what has to be done to make a megasquirt work. I was thinking of running a distributor and then just running the megasquirt, and i would be able to use all of the stock sensors rather than having to drill holes into my girl. But my question is, do you think its overkill to run a stand alone on a N/A ? I'd like to run 720 secondaries because i was thinking about spraying, and the megasquirt is farely cheap, and im somewhat decent with electronics, but my friend works with stuff like that so i know it can be done.

What do you all think?

Justin

Most people use the SAFC to take fuel OUT of an N/A... my 89 GTU, with a full flow racing beat exhaust actually got WAY rich above 5 grand at FWO.. I'd seriously think about checking my AFR with a good wideband or take it to a dyno before ADDING any fuel....

I've built a couple of Megasquirts, they're cool aint they!!!!

MS is going to be work... you'll need a wideband, though you might get away with MStweak and kinda guess the AFR( good for rough sketching?) I would still think a wideband would be necessary to get MAX power. I do not think it will be worth the effort for you. Talk to renns.

why dont you just hook up the ms to only run the secondary injectors? that way you can keep the stock ignition and still tune wot

I've built a MS and am in the process of installing it on my '87 TII. I'm going to keep my stock ECU controlling ignition and the MS will be controlling both injector banks using the Dual Table Code.

Any engine can be improved by playing with the conservative factory fuel and ignition maps (fuel only in this case), even when otherwise completely stock. It's simply an argument of cost vs. returns. I don't know how good a Megasquirt is compared to the more expensive EMS's, but is certainly has low cost in its favour.
