Thinking of buying an exhuast!

Hello ,Im looking at mazdatrix cat back exhuasts for my 87 gxl auto, and i was interested in the differences in the three. They offer which are hks, racing beat, and dynomax. Dynomax being the cheapest would it not give me as much power as say the hks?(the higher priced one)Also besides the y-pipe wouldnt a strait through muffler be better. The mufflers that come with these catbacks dont look like there strait through. If anyone here was bought these systems and can tell me alittle i would really appreciate it thanks.

Buy the Racing Beat system. The mufflers ARE(I can prove this!) straight through and sound very nice. The Stainless Steel construction of them also means they are going to last a long time. On the inside they have SS/ceramic wool packing which will also last a LONG time. They use good sized flanges and have a proven track record with quality and performance(I beleive their cars are the ones that did the land speed records back in the day...). I owne the full dual uncollected setup from mazdatrix(RB now has their own that is cheaper..) with Racing beat header, mufflers, and silencers, I love them. I guess I should mention they survived a pretty bad front end collission without much more than scratches from the tow back home after the accident. Don't buy dynomax I don't think I can express that enough. HKS is a quality company but I have the impression that most of their mufflers are loud attention getter units, which isn't my style as I don't need to validate myself through a "look at me" car.

pay the extra and go RB.

A cat-back system alone is going to get you maybe 5 ponies maybe a little more. The major reason to get a cat-back is to replace old crappy stock systems that are falling apart and for sound quality. RB does both well....

I payed a little over 1300 dollars for my setup so 600 for a cat-back sounds fine. You can probably find a used cat-back around for 400-500 dollars, maybe less.

A down pipe and a header are two things that are replacements for each other. There are headers for N/a's and down pipes for N/a's(in which case you don't use a header because you can't) and down pipes for turbo's(which go after the turbo)

Yes you will gain more power if, down the road, you decide to pick up a header/silencer or down pipe/silencer setup.

Smart move. Its a whole lot more fun, too.
Just wondering, but why weren't you considering the Apex N1? I've got it with the RB header/presilencer and I love it.

Did you replace the y- pipe with that?...And yea i did think about it but figured it would either be too expensive or noone has got a setup like that, plus the r&b mufflers just bolt up to the y-pipe and i like that!
