thickness for wastegate flapper?

Hi, I saw a few posts on porting the wastegate, but I was wondering how thick of metal plate to use as a cover? Thanks

I used a 3mm thick mild steel washer. Despite being told by several people it wouldn't last, when I pulled the turbo off a few weeks ago it was completely intact after nearly three years daily use.
