Thickness of a new clutch disc?
Does anyone know what the thickness in mm is of a new clutch disc? I need to replace mine and have several used ones laying around. I know what service limit is and some of these are within 2-3 mm of service limit, but I don't know how thick they are when new.
The gist is, I'm trying to find out if it's worth using one of these or if I need to just bite the bullit and get a new clutch kit.
This is for an S4 N/A.

i dont know the mm's, but my advise to you....... buy a new clutch.... we all know pulling a trans isnt brain surgery, but its still alot of work.... i've gone the used route before... and regreted it... if you put a new one in, you know you dont have to worry!! when mine was n/a, i put a clutch masters stage 1, it was $195 ! not too bad. but youll love it!

Yes, I know they have wear inicators. That wasn't my question, and fwiw the method of determining service limit changed from the S3 to the S4, even though they take the same disc.
Anyone have a new disc laying around that they could measure and post the thickness (in mm please) .

Straight from the FSM-
Clutch disk thickness of pressure plate side- 3.5mm (turbo), 4.1mm (NA)
Clutch disk thickness of flywheel side- 3.5mm
Add the two together, plus the center spline plate thickness, and you have your answer...
The FSM is a terrible thing to waste. Anybody notice I'm picking up Hailer's sardonic wit?

Wayne, I'm not arguing the specs in the FSM. I have 7 of them from S1 to S4. I know what the service limits are, per the FSM. My question is what is the thickness of a NEW disc.
What i am tring to determine is if the used discs I have are worth my time and trouble, i.e. is there much life in them left. I have plenty of new brake pads around and I can measure them and check them against service limit. I want to do the same with the clutch disc. If brake pads are near service limit they get thrown out.
If a new disc is only 12mm thick, then I may have a few reusable ones. If a new disc is 15mm or greater then I don't think most of them are worth the trouble.
By the way, I may be 'new' to the forum, but I am not new to mechanics. Half of the forum members are younger than my kids and I've been doing my own repairs since high school.
The car I am working on is my daily driver. I have 4 other 7's to put back together. At $2-400 a pop for a new cluch kit, it can become a major expense. Do you see where I am going and why I've asked the question?
