Thermowax Deleted?
I just need someone to confirm for me that the thermowax is missing from the photos. This is off my Turbo 2. Trying to solve idle issues. So trying to source a thermowax for an S4 T2.
Thank you

Definitely missing a few things. The thermowax stuff goes on the back side of the throttle body. There are 2 different thermowax pellets (see photo). It looks like the first set of your secondary throttle plates and linkage have been deleted, and you are missing a couple dashpots, a vacuum diaphragm as well. These systems serve a couple of functions, all with the ultimate purpose of preventing you from opening full throttle before the air temp sensor (two-pronged, located right next to the rubber elbow from the intercooler) has come up to operating temperature. That sensor works by being kept at the operating temperature of the throttle body, with intake air passing over the wire inside it to change the voltage. The coolant passage on the top of the throttle body is capped off, so it would be unable to hold the throttle body at a temp consistent with the engine coolant. The thermowax assemblys: 1. Raise idle while coolant temp is below operating temperature, and 2. prevent the first set of secondary valves from opening until operating temperature. This makes it so that the full volume of intake air is unavailable until it can be properly accounted for by the ECU. I'd try to get the whole set back on the throttle body.

if you can find one from an S5 they made the hose in the back a lot easier. the S4 is an L shape, and its a PITA, the S5 is a ? shape and its still not fun, but way better

All the info above is good. I just wanted to add it might be easier to just find a stock throttle body and swap it out as a unit, instead of trying to piece back together what you have. Depending on what's available near you, of course.

Thanks this what I needed to know. Trying to source all the parts seems to be a rough endeavor. I will look for trying to source a complete one, is there any value in my current one? Always looking to recoup a little bit of the money I dump into this car lol.
Also everyone else's replies. Thank you so much!
