Question Thermo sensor/Water Temp q Gauge q's

Hey, I'm installing an autometer z series electrical water temp gauge and instead of drilling a hole and taping it I was wondering if you could tap into the thermo sensor wires to get a reading. I was reading through some posts when searching and it seems like you can, but I need some confirmation. The thermo plug has 2 wires coming out of it, which one is the sender for temp? Do I have to tap into both and run them together into 1 wire that will go to the gauge, or just one of the 2 wires? Thx for any help.

A gauge will be calibrated for the sensor supplied with it. The chances of the calibration of the guage also matching any stock temp sender on the car are slim to none. Use the supplied sender.

Yah that makes sense. I was just trying to avoid having to drill and tap a hole, but oh well I guess I'll just go ahead and do that
