Thermal pellet install w/ engine out?

Okay, bought a thermal pellet from fc3s -- and the instructions detail how to change the pellet with the engine still in the car. i.e. you push down the clutch pedal to hold the "internals" in place.

However, w/ the car out, how would one go about doing this?? I tried prying the 'throwout' lever on the tranny, but can't get enough force on it. Also tried hooking it up to compressed air, but still couldn't get enough pressure.

any ideas?
I've got the same question into Dave (fc3s), but thought I'd try here to.

thanks!!

stand it up on the flywheel so the pulley's sticking in the air, then remove the bolt. Use a flywheel lock of somesort.

If you have an Air Compressor did you try an air wrench??? With an air wrench mine spun right out.

No, the concern is not getting the nut off, the concern is keeping the needle bearings in place. I haven't tried standing it on end either, but honestly not sure how that would help -- maybe you could elaborate? I have the tranny bolted back up to the engine now too.

Sorry, I guess I may not have clarified. The purpose of holding the clutch in was to keep everything in place including the needle bearings so they don't fall down after removing the nut. That's what I'm struggling with how to do w/ the engine out of the car, but the tranny still bolted in place. I have an impact gun, so I think I can get the nut off w/o too much prob.

Stand it on the flywheel and it'll keep the bearing in place. Basically, you have a circular spacer that the bearing sits ontop, when you take the bolt off, the spacer moves forward and allows the bearing to fall behind it, by laying it on the ground, the bearing can't fall behind the spacer because the spacer didn't move forward, it's using gravity to hold it in place.

cool... well, if I end up separating the tranny again before I put it in the car, I'll do that!

thanks!!
