Test: who knows this wire?

I have a wire that I can not find where it connects. It is s single wire, green with a black (or dark color brown?) stripe. It is coming out of the harness by the alternator and rad filler neck. It just reaches the back of the alternator, but does not plug in to it. I can not find anywhere it goes. It also has black single spade type connector on it.
I have tried looking in the wiring manual, but the only green wires I find don't go anywhere near this one.
Help!
Thanks,
hanman

Some S4's came with a small electric fan mounted in front of the radiator/condenser. It was turned on by a thermostatic switch in the top of the thermostat housing, just over the thermostat. This looks like a bolt with a single spade connector on the top. If you have one, that is where the wire goes. If no fan/switch, it is a spare wire.
