Temp Guage....What should it read in a 89 NA?

Temp Guage....What should it read in a 89 NA?
When im driving my car my temp guage reads 1/4 way up, and 1/2 way up and sometimes 3/4 way up. I replaced thermostat, fan and that didnt seen to help. I checked the radiator hoses and the upper hose is hot and the lower hose is cool, i dont know if that means anything. thanx

Not to sound like a echo; but 3/4 is too high.
Temp guages on 89-91 are like a idiot light.
You know how they say when a idiot light comes onit is too late...well it is the same with the 89-91 temp guage..accept it is a guageinstead of a light. Hope you didnt damage your motor
