TB porting questions

Is there any sure way to get the right curve on the walls inside my TB when Porting and Pollishing it? Also would JB weld do well enough to plug up the holes of where the rod use to be or should i just stick a couple of big bolts in there?

If I port my engin, the intake and exhaust, how much should i do them. And how much HP would i expect to gain mt porting my engin and TB and getting rounded 5th and 6th sleve ports? thank you for reading this and for all your opinions.

I think most folks use JB weld for plugging the holes -- although you will also find a lot of folks to swear against it... Honestly couldn't tell you good or bad personally, but that's what I started to use (haven't finished and car is not complete yet).

As far as the right curve... hmm, it's all finesse and art more than science I think. I'd recommend checking out pics and such of port jobs others have done. I think the basic idea is to clear excess material out and get it nice and smooth on the inside. Maybe others who are more knowledgable and experienced with this job will chime in.

Also, I'm not sure you should expect any HP gains just from the TB port & polish. From what I can gather from others who've done it, it basically just improves throttle response -- although a dyno might reveal very small gains. Sorry, I can't help much in this area, but I guess I wanted to reply and recommend you look at some pics of other's jobs. You also might want to just consider having one of the experienced folks on these forums do it for you. I know there are several that do it for a decent price...

Good luck.

Not really sure what "the right curve" is supposed to mean, but all you're doing is smoothing the transition from the TB inlet into each bore. Once you start doing it it's pretty self-explanatory. There are lots of photos posted in numerous threads to give you an idea of what to aim for. It might help to have one nearby while you're working.

And don't waste your time polishing it, that'll do nothing. Just get it reasonably smooth like it was originally.
