talon vs. FC TII need info please...

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum, and am looking to get a new car. I was wondering if some of you could give me some objective(yes, I know it's an RX-7 forum comparisons. I'm thinking either an 86-88 RX-7 TII or a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. What's faster, more reliable, etc... And if both were bone stock which would be faster the Talon of the Rex?

Thanx all, and please forgive me my ignorance

from what i heard, AWD Talons (or Eclipses) could go faster for less money than TII...

Talons are fast, but can have horrible drive-line problems. As an example, my friend has a 90 talon tsi, fairly well modified (bigger turbo, exhaust, etc). Just this summer hes had to replace the rear diff, front axels, and transfer case. And now his transmission is going. Maybe hes just unlucky, but still the cars just arent made to handle the power you can get out of them. If you keep up with the fuel stuff on a tII, they pretty reliable, and you never hear of driveline issues with it.
Other side of it is though, he paid less for it than I did my TII, and its significantly faster , straight line at least .

oh, and stock I think the TII is slightly faster, but with some next to free mods, the dsm would probably be faster.

The DSM will definitely be "quicker" than the T2 since its AWD, but I don't think it will be "faster" on the roll along. And it also depends on what you do to the cars.

The T2 has a lot of potential.

dsm is faster stock. i own both of them. i got a 1991 eagle talon tsi. with litte bolt ons and more boost they skoot. but there really not reliable. been threw a tranny and clutch already. they are more of a daily driver i think though. but i love my t II also for the rear wheel drive boost. dunno its a toss up

TurboII all the way both are good cars and the talon is quick as **** and the weight is close on each car both cars can get to about 400hp so i dont know its a toss up between awd traction or rwd drifting

the talons are ugly im sorry but i hate em. I respect there speed and ability to gain more from less outa your pocket but its also a question of looks. The rx7's are such beautiful cars in my opinion theres no question id get a tII and not an s4 id get the s5, but you also of corse could throw a s5 engine in that 88 your looking at. Beleive me got for the rx7, youll fall in love with it the second you get in one and drive it

i have a friend with a 300+hp talon running 18psi on a daily basis i dont believe he has had ne driveline problems although he did ditch the stock clutch for soemthing stronger before the stock on broke. he did spin 2 bearings though when he accidently spiked to 21 PSI he has the car running in the low 13 high 12s now and he has more mods to come. he loves teh car but im going to stick with my TII some day we will be going at in on the strip but right now hes got way more mods than i do so it wouldnt even be close

When I was deciding for myself, I noticed the TII was much cheaper. From the statistical info, the staightline performance is similar. The TII is the purer sports car. Why do you people buy FCs if you think the DSM cars are better?

I don't know alot about DSMs, but why would they be cheaper to mod? Isn't it the same principles, the only difference being the rotary has stronger exhaust pulses (perhaps indicating better response to turbo enhancing mods)

What seems to be cheaper is that most people don't tend to do hardly any fuel mods from what I've seen. And the cars handle it. Plus alot of people just make their own MBC and jump up to 15+psi. Our cars can't handle any of that without a much better intercooler AND a bigger fuel pump AND larger injectors AND a fuel computer. Fuel mods add up, as does a better intercooler.

I wasnt implying in my post that the dsm was a better car, having driven both, I much prefer my TII. The talon feels much different, and its not just the awd. The transmission is sloppy, chassis felt loose, etc. Its more of an economy car with a great engine thrown in, where the rx7 is a real sports car. That said, you can't deny that for the price, you wont find a faster car than a dsm.

stock turbos wouldn't make power beyond 14-15 pounds even with a giant FMIC. All I have for fuel mods is a walbro 255. I'm running the corksport 3'' dp/mp and a cone filter. Boosting up to 12 pounds in 4th before it bleeds to 10. EGT says I'm running stoich if not rich.
