Talk me into/ out of it

Im about to buy a TII roller with no engine. Im really thinking I want to put an LS1 in it, which is SPENDY!

Anybody who's done the swap have any opinions on why I should/ shouldnt do it? Looking for real feedback.

p.s. Im not against putting a rotary back in it, just want to consider the performance and reliabilty of the LS1

I have performed a swap (in a FD, but still...) and from a $/HP perspective the V-8 wins.
Fuel consumption is also better, parts are cheap and readily available.

And then there's the torque...

Why not just buy a Corvette? Or Camaro? Or GTO?

Because they're all heavier and don't handle as well?

NIce try, but the real answer is cost. Vettes handle fine, they're just at least 2x more expensive than a TII. swap.

do some actual realistic pricing scenarios before you make a decision.

there are many ways to do the LS1 swap and there are many ways to set up a T2 engine. Decide your goals and how you want to get there. When you get the pricing figured out then it will be easier to make a decision.

blasphemy . If you are going to swap in a v8 atleast keep it in the jap family. A 1uz would be badass.

do it. there are so many v8 engine out in the road for a reason. and there is a reason why so many rx7 are broken down.

and for anyone saying v8 swaps are wrong. just go to the home page and i can promise you there will be tons of threads tittled "help my car don't start" "help my car don't get power" "help this help that" just saying

ps. i love my rotary engine but i also love driving my car and sometimes people grow up and realize it don't matter what's under the hood as long as its running and strong.

My sentiments exactly. I used to be a whiny purist...about 4 motors ago!

I know what Id spend to build and set up a TII properly, Im just beginning to try and price the LS1 swap. The pros for me with the LS1 are that I know it would be better on gas, more reliably powerful and make a beutiful noise.

The 2 cons are the $$ and the fact that I wouldnt even know where to begin!

If you can't work on a rotory, buy something other than a 7. Don't blame the engine when you don't know what your doing.

i have seen a LT1 swap done before. looked nice. however i think they are heavier but cheaper and easier to find. at least the Tuned Port injection manifold is. all over the place at muscle car swap meets.

All power issues and reliability aside, I say go for rotary. Not because I'm a purist, but because Rotaries just seem more interesting to me. They are unique, and interesting machinery. Good topics for conversation and out of the ordinary

If you can't spell rotary, spell something other than rotary. You apparently missed the point of this thread, but thanks for chiming in.

You cant buy an FC and make that sort of power reliably for any less if you go with a rotary. Or can you?

+1 on keeping it rotary. I've gone 16 years with not being broken down, or left on the side of the road with a rotary.

A stock T2 is reliable. People just expect the same sort of reliability after boosting 20 psi using some ghetto frankenstein BOV/fuel management/turbo setup. Of course you're going to have issues! Any time you come up with a setup that doesn't have millions of dollars in OEM R&D behind it you're going to reduce reliability. A stock LS1 will make more power than a stock T2. But it will cost a bunch of money to get there and may be even more of a headache trying to get all your electronics/gauges to work and keep a well balanced car. Your call.
